I Love You to the Earth & Back

I Love You to the Earth & Back was created as a means of self-therapy. Writing and illustrating this book was how I processed and solidified the deep and complex feelings around losing my mother at the age of 18.

The story follows a little alien named Sweetpea as they journey out into the world and find themselves faced with the loss of their caregiver, The Mauring Tree. With the help of an unexpected friend, and the unique light they shed on the situation, Sweetpea is able to connect with the energy they thought had been lost, bringing them a sense of peace.

Though the format is that of a children’s book, the story speaks to people of any age that have experienced this specific kind of loss. From awestruck children to tearful adults, the response this absolute labour of love has been incredible to witness. Truly one of my greatest acheivements.
